Katrin Steiger (*1982, Schmalkalden, Germany) is a conceptual artist who works with textiles and multimedia. Her experimental work operates between observation and transformation in order to explore aspects of performativity in everyday life. With her interest in multisensory signifiers, she investigates textile appearances, contemporary phenomena and social behavior also in participatory formats. Katrin Steiger completed her master’s degree with honors in media art at the Bauhaus University Weimar with Christine Hill and subsequently received the graduate scholarship from the Free State of Thuringia. Her works have been exhibited at the Marburger Kunstverein, the EIGEN+ART Lab Berlin, the Haus am Horn Weimar, the HfG Archive Ulm, the Kunsthaus Erfurt and at the Ars Electronica in Linz, among others. Until July 2023, she taught for 10 years at the Professorship of Art and Social Terrain as an artistic associate in the Fine Art Department at the Bauhaus University Weimar and is the keyfounder of the textile workshop there. Since August 2023, Katrin Steiger has been teaching at the Weissensee art school Berlin in the Chair of Experimental Design. She lives and works in Berlin.
