Anna Zett (Research Residency)

Studio Exhibition

The traces and research materials from Anna Zett’s research residency and the subsequent event ‘Bye Bye Beginning’ can now be seen as a studio exhibition as part of the annual DIFFRACTIONS program.

During her research residency from September to November 2024, Anna Zett worked with archive materials from galerie weisser elefant. The artist focuses on the last years of the GDR, when the gallery was an important venue for performance, installation and artistic experimentation.

With reference to the institutional relaunch of the municipal gallery under the name Kunst Raum Mitte, Anna Zett poses the question of a transgenerational transmission of experience: ‘Where does it go, where does it come from? No origin in sight in the centre. Beginning – centre – end – beginning. The ritual does not repeat itself. The present meets to say goodbye.’

On 25 October, Anna Zett, together with Rainer Görß, Hermann Heisig, Ulrike Stöhring and Ute Waldhausen, led a ‘Ritual Group Association’, a participatory exploration of this question as well as collective memories and transgenerational experiences.

In addition to research and improvisation materials, the studio exhibition will show the playing field of Resonanz – Postsozialistische Gruppenimprovisation, which Anna Zett developed in 2020/21 with the performer and choreographer Hermann Heisig and a group of co-performers, including Ute Waldhausen.
